Funny stuff

So I heard a story, courtesy of Chick again of course, which I thought was so funny that I decided to share it.

There's a pretty big Irish community in Montreal and the Irish play a big part in Montreal's history etc etc. So every year they have a huge St. Patrick's day parade here, apparently the biggest in the world. Every year the city paints a green stripe in the middle of a certain street along which the parade proceeds.

So, one year the city of Montreal was in a bit of financial trouble and they felt that they couldn't affort to have the street painted this time. Well, the folks at a local radio station thought this could not be tolerated and decided to gather up some volunteers to paint the street. So, eventually they got a whole bunch of people together who were willing to do the job, but the problem was that you can't just go and paint a green stripe in the middle of the street in the middle of the day, right? So they figure they'd do it at 2am.

So now they're thinking "alright, we got quite a few hours to waste before we can start with the painting, so we gotta figure out what to do." And what they figured they'd do was, well, Irish people, St. Patty's day coming up, what do you do? You go to a bar. You drink. A lot. So apparently, the stripe that year wasn't the straightest one people had seen.

In my enthusiasm of telling this story, I may have been misunderstood by Juha. To my understanding it is the longest, continually running parade in North America, if not the world. They have never missed a year while others that may have had an earlier beginning, may have missed parading for a year or more at some time in their history.

My apologies for this clarification as sometimes one shouldn't let the facts ruin a good story. ;-)
